Laiyah - We Are Practically Twins

Laiyah is Chiweenie (chihuahua/dachshund) Mix. She is three-year-old, with weight 7.78lbs. Dog history has been studied recently using mitochondrial DNA, which suggests that wolves and dogs split into different species around 100,000 years ago.

The Philippine Tarsier is an incredibly unique and interesting creature. These nocturnal animals are one of the worlds smallest primates (though not as small as the pygmy marmoset) and are believed to be about 45 million years old as a species.
Where is my tennis ball?

Lucy Ready, Sit, Down and Go

I didn't manage to see Lucy recently, but her Bubble Mom Betty visited her and took fantastic pictures of Lucy and shared with everyone about time they spend together:

"I had another fantastic session with Lucy this evening.
During our park play time - we started with 2 balls. However with my superwoman arm - I managed to chuck one over the fence and we ended up playing with just one.

I thought I'd try and see if Lucy would go "down" for the ball - in addition to "sit" for it.
Needless to say, Lucy did a fantabulous job (has someone been working with her on this already???)
She was so fantastic today - had tons of fun. Here are some shots from the fetch session.

Betty"

Thank You Betty you are awsome!

Yogi Graduation Night

Yog already finished Premier Adult Class, and today he succesfully completed the Graduate Class were the level of difficulty was increased by duration, distraction level, and distance. He got introduced to excercises included heeling, go to your mat, stand for exam, and greeting people. He is getting great on recalls. Yogi is one of the best student at Happy Tails to You Dog Training Class :)

We signed him for Advanced Class. This class is for the owner who wants a well behaved dog who can go anywhere in public, and also prepares your dog to become a Canine Good Citizen! Prerequisites are passing and completing the Graduate Class. This class emphasizes the ten specific tests a dog must complete successfully to receive a Canine Good Citizen Certificate through the American Kennel.

Thank You Dawna Caldwell for giving Yogi solid structure!

Yogi and Kelso It Is All About Socialization, Trust, and Positive Vibes

Kelso and Yogi after two hours walk
Yogi and Kelso met during HikeABull Meetup couple of months ago. Today Cindy Kelso's Mom brought Kelso. We took an urban walk from the Library Field to Jollyman Park and from there to Wilson Park in Cupertino.

Dog to dog socialization is very important, but with adults dogs it can be very tricky. Yogi during 10 month in the shelter was not interacting with other dogs. When I got him he couldn't stand a dog walking across the street. He was reacting very intense, loud and vicious. We slowly introduced him to different dogs, first on the other side of fence at the dog parks, later we got couple of dogs that we go for a walk.

"So what does dog-to-dog socialization look like when it involves adults?  The goal should be to teach the older dog to behave calmly in public and on walks, rather than “play nicely” at the dog park.  Bring lots of small, tasty treats on your walks and reward Fido for sitting quietly and responding to his name while other dogs pass by at a safe distance.  It is not necessary or recommended for Fido to “say hi” to every dog he sees, or indeed to acknowledge any dog.  Introducing dogs on leash can be tricky, as many are forced to interact on tight leashes for too-long periods of time, leading to leash reactivity.  If he should bark at another dog, simply get his attention and walk him away from the situation.  Once he is calm, you can continue your walk." more http://www.animalhumanesociety.org/training/library/socializing-adult-dog

Cindy Thank You! without people like you Yogi could not be a succesfull dog

Yogi and Annular Solar Eclipse

Annular Solar Eclipse
Today took place an annular solar eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth. An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's apparent diameter is smaller than the Sun, causing the Sun to look like an annulus (ring), blocking most of the Sun's light. An annular eclipse appears as a partial eclipse over a region thousands of kilometres wide. This is also known as Ring of Fire.

Yogi off for the event
