Chunky Monkey as a Movie Star, Therapy Dog, Urban Dictionary Definition and... A Magically Delicious Ice Cream

HSSV's Chunky Monkey
I am special guy looking for my forever home! I like to sit in laps and be petted gently as I lean in. I'm very polite when walking on a leash and am looking for a family that likes to go on daily long walks, jogs, and/or hikes. I'm a bit reserved when I meet new people and I need a little time and patience before I warm up. I'm not a big fan of being left alone, so I really hope I can find someone who can be with me often or slowly help me become more comfortable with the idea. If you're looking for a constant companion, ask to meet me today!

Urban Dictionary

Alex - Let a Three-legged Dog Be a Dog

HSSV's Alex “Some don’t ever notice their leg is missing,”
Whether a dog loses a leg due to trauma or disease, most often he or she will bounce back and learn to adjust. As Sheila Wells points out, dogs don’t have the same stigma that we would have about losing a limb. “Some don’t ever notice their leg is missing,” she says. “Usually a leg that has been taken off has been painful for a long time and the dog is already used to not using that leg. When they get it removed, their whole demeanor changes because they can run around without being in pain. There’s no reason a three-legged dog has to be disabled.”

HSSV's Alex "Let a 3 legged dog be a dog"

Let a 3 legged dog be a dog
When we share our life with a three legged dog, we naturally want to protect him from as many things as possible. It is important, though, to let a dog be a dog.
If a three legged dog is kept from doing all the things that dogs love to do, he will have lived an unfulfilled life.

“A life lived in fear is a life half lived” ~ [Spanish proverb]

HSSV's Alex "A dog is the only creature on Earth that loves you more than he loves himself."

Chunky Monkey Puzzled "Why Am I Still at HSSV?"

HSSV's Chunky Monkey Puzzled "Why Am I Still at HSSV?"

Such a love bug!

Oh I love Monkey --- he is so affectionate and loves to cuddle and lather you with kisses. Walking/running is not his thing but he'll do it for belly rubs and massages. He loves massages and will climb on your lap for a full body massage. Puzzling he is still at HSSV.

yeah, he's a great dog

And it is completely shocking to me that he's still with us. I finally got my chance to play with him the last two weekends and he's absolutely an awesome guy. Super affectionate, really, really easy to walk, love the way he leans in his whole body for a petting, like being close isn't enough and he wants to merge. And those beautiful yellow eyes. So wise. Great little guy.
Great picture, too. It's so him.

HSSV's Chunky Monkey "Such a love bug!"

Daisy "Patience Is the Basic Stuff"

HSSV's Daisy
I met Daisy for the first time, she needs time to warm up. She came to our Bubble as a stray dog very shy, with some fears, but great couriosity. With patience, treats and trust she will be love of your life for many years.

Kovu Ornithology and Botany Specialist

HSSV's Kovu "Can you do your ears up?"
Today Kovu was not the happiest dog, He was little bit tense all the time, so I took him first to play in the dog park. Where he enjoyed free running, playing fetch and water bath.
HSSV's Kovu loves water
After we took off and stroll next to creek... just to check out ducks and cranes... awsome yummy birds. Maybe Ornithology will be next Kovu's fascination.
HSSV's Kovu and birds study
After study of birds, Kovu needed more quiet time to relax, so we continue our walk passing people and cars, or just sitting on  grass, green ivy, next to agapanthus flowers... He might consider Botany as a second major his study ;)

Alex - Tripod Puppy

HSSV's Alex
Alex came to our shelter month ago with his back leg badly injured. Unfortunalely he lost his leg and officially became tripod puppy. He is recovering pretty good, learning how to balance his body with three legs, sometimes he forgets missing leg :)

HSSV's Alex "The happiest puppy in the world, will make your world happy place"
HSSV's Alex "Missing leg who noticed :), lets check it out what Bubble Mom has in her hand, some yummy treats... Oh dog life is good!

HSSV's Chunky Monkey -  90 days, 7,776,000 seconds, 129,600 minutes, 2160 hours, 12 weeks, and still waiting for furever home...
Chunky Monkey is waiting for furever family since March 24th, 2012. It is 90 days, 7,776,000 seconds, 129,600 minutes, 2160 hours, 12 weeks. He is a very sweet dog. I took him for a two miles walk. This little guy gained some weight during time in the shelter, with gaining weight he gained also some knowledge to commands like, sit, down, walking on a loose leash, beatiful watch me. If you are looking for a buddy who help you to loose some weight he will be a perfect match for you.

Laiyah has come a long way from the balcony. Now she's ready to move into home with a family that has the time, patience, and love to help keep her going from good to great.

Yesterday was very hot day, we took one hour walk in shade, avoiding melting pavement, cooling down on green grass under gigantic agapanthus flowers.

Yogi, Teenfriend and First Hours of Summer Vacation

Yogi and his best teenfriend, their are thirsty and sweating their tongues out
Fremont Older Open Space Preserve is a great place to hike with your dog. It is in the heart of Sillicon Valley. It is lots of ups and downs, sounds, smells, and view is just beautiful.
We hiked 5.4 miles today, and took us more-less than two hours. We chose direction to the boarder Fremont OOSP with Stevens Creek County Park. Be sure you have with you plenty of water, sunscreen, and teenager to keep you great company.

Yogi vs. Venus

Yogi vs. Venus "I think I am too close?!"
Yogi is a dog overreacting to certain stimuli what in his case it is the sight of other dogs. His reaction to these stimuli is usually a bark and lunge type of behavior that scares the pants off both the person or dog being barked at and the person holding the leash. Reactivity may be part of the dogs genetic make up or could be from a lack of social experience or a particularly scary experience.
Since January I am trying to desensitize Yogi to other dogs. We have lots of friends with small and big dogs willing to help with this complicated process. Dogs like Yogi that are reactive can benefit from lots of training and socialization and some simple management tools as well.
One of Yogi's helper is Venus with her great owner, super peacefull Karen.
Oh Venus you are so beautiful, sight...
Hi Karen, may I have your permission to look at Venus one more time...

HikeABull Meet the Pack at Fremont Older Open Space

Yogi with blue bandana, it indicates his reactivity to dogs and his needs to have space. Thanks Petunia and Quinn covering Yogi when dogs were aproaching from opossite direction.
Weekends are getting very busy. Today Yogi joined another HikeABull Meetup at Fremont Older Open Space. It took us two and half hours to finish 5 miles hike.

Please meet other HikeABull pack members.

Seven-year-old Petunia is mixed Jack Russell, she is trained in agility.
Petunia
Quinn is two-year-old Border Collie mixed with German Shepard.
Quinn
Spanky seven-year-old Am Staff.
Spanky
Two-year-old Voodoo American Bulldog. His human mom and dad selected today hike. Thank You Lisa for motivating pack to keep moving forward!

Voodoo
Four-year-old Yogi. Adopted from HSSV shelter eight months ago.
Yogi
Hike joined also Barney, but he left little bit earlier so his recent portrait is not here. His new mom and dad, just adopted him from HSSV week ago.

Picture was taken when he was in HSSV shelter. One of our Bubble Mom Betty took this picture and wrote about him:
"Barney asking me "What's Next????"
This is a genius boy. He knows his sit, down, watch me, airplane sit, come and go to bed.
We played "find it" and "catch" which he did 'ok' on (meaning the treat hit his nose, fell to the ground and he ate it).
He is extremely attentive, following me around his room and going into an automatic sit & watch me anytime I stopped. Whomever is lucky enough to adopt him is going to have a lifetime of fun."
Last week he found furever home!
A little bit late were Henry and Diesel, so they joined us in a half way.
