Yogi and His Adoption Story

Yogi adopted from HSSV October 2011
I met Yogi in April 2011 when I started volunteering at HSSV. First he was a dog behind glass window, with red, tired and sad eyes. In July 2011 finally I could take him for a walk. At HSSV you have to complete five levels of training to start socializing more challenging dogs and Yogi was one of those dogs - diamond dog. I was taking him every other day for a walk, so he could excersise and have some special time just for him. At the end of the September 2011 I read carefully Yogi's adoption plan and noticed that he was in the shelter since December 2010, almost 10 months. At first I couldn't believe it, and that day I asked at the shelter if it is ok if I can take Yogi home so he can have some break. Shelter environment is very stressful for dogs. For 3 weeks I was fostering him, and at the end of October 2011, I signed adoption papers and he was mine. During our journey we went through many training session, I started taking seminars with the best dog trainers, reading tones of books, watching hours and hours of videos, and absorbing everything about dog aggression, about fears in dogs, about socialization. I started exposing Yogi to dogs and people, and using positive reinforcement, good structure we started our journey that is continuing. In July 2012 we joined together doggy daycare me as an employee and Yogi as a student, special needs student. In December 2012 for the first time Yogi was able to play with another dog . From that point he started playing with more dogs, and his group was including more buddies to play with.

Bringing Yogi home was one of the good things that happened to us. Watching his transformation is amazing. YOGI gave me and my family great lessons that patience, kindness, no judgment can open all the best sides of anyone, fulfill with good energy. Yogi shares his life with me, my husband and 13 and 17 years old human brothers.

Yogi sharing his life with his family with respect, love and understanding :)
He goes with us everywhere, loves backpacking trips in Sierra, he helps socialize other dogs, and he is an integrated part of our family. He is six years old, we don't remember how was our life before him

Bruce Almighty "Velcro Dog"

HSSV's Bruce

Dogs are great, my big come back to volunteering at HSSV crossed with meeting Bruce. I met him twice already. He is such a sweet, quiet, and calm soul. He loves human presence, once he will bond with his human he might be a velcro dog, attaches so firmly and to be in close physical contact with his chosen person. He followed me everywhere already, lucky his new owner to share life with.

HSSV's Bruce as a Velcro Dog
Volunteering at the local shelter is bringing to my life sweetness and awesomeness of sharing moments with dogs. Adopting dog from your local shelter will safe dog life, and will bring into your life all the best.

Donut - 80 pounds pure, furry love

Tuesday evening I was introduced to Donut. He was starring at me through the window or maybe spotted my treat bag, full of yummies...

HSSV's Donut "Who are you stranger?"
I always wondering how dogs in the bubble feel about meeting new people everyday. Do they feel confused, frustrated? Maybe in the beginning they feel puzzled when they have to start new relationship, and they have to learn everything from the beginning. Every new person is a new contest, new body language, new sounds, new smells. Simply they are waiting for somebody who will take them home.
The best way to develop new relationship is take your dog for a walk. So I took Donut my bubble dog for a walk.
HSSV's Donut "Sit and Watch Me"

We did couple of gifts exchanges. I gave him cookie he gave me a nice "sit" and "watch me".

HSSV's Donut "Gift exchange"
Donut is very gentle, but also very energetic dog. He is 80 pounds pure, furry love. If you have big enough heart he could be your snuggle buddy.

Kovu - The Bubble Sweetheart

Thursday evening is a great time to stop by at the Bubble and visit some dogs before they will go for a good night sleep.

Kovu is a wonderful Bubble dog that everybody in the Bubble love. His window is full of pictures, and love cards. He is a very special dog and needs somebody who will be a very special person to him.

In his adoption plan stands, that he is in the Bubble since June 14th. I think it is long enough, and it is time for Kovu to move on.

HSSV's Kovu - Bubble Sweetheart
He was little bit nervous meeting me, what he does with new people. It is maybe a reason, he is still in the Bubble. Kovu needs to find a home with people who will understand his needs, and space he need.

The best way to start working on relationship is taking a Bubble dog for a nice, long, relaxing evening walk.

Abby "I Don't Want Your Cookie Stranger"

After almost four months of break I am back to my Dogs In the Bubble. Let's meet Abby.

HSSV's Abby

Abby is three-year-old, seven pounds of pure fun. She didn't want to socialize with the stranger so I tried to bribe her with cookies, which I found in my treat bag, She didn't want my cookie but she accepted power walk. I was amazed with her speed, and super power energy. She could be good jogging or power walk partner.

HSSV's Abby No cookie from you stranger!
After 20 minutes power walk we back to Abby's luxury condo #110.

HSSV's Abby

Abby still didn't want cookies, she was just little bit nervous about stranger.

HSSV's Baghera "Is it Friday yet?
Hi, my name is Baghera. I am adorable, loving, and very loyal. I am used to being a part of the family and thrive on attention. I am active, but also have a very snuggly side and love to cuddle! I love to play and rough-house with other small, active dogs and I even get along with cats! I used to live in a family with teenagers and I adored them too! I am currently living in a multi-dog foster home and my ideal home would include a canine brother or sister! I am the perfect family dog- I am already house trained, ride well in the car, walk nicely on leash, and can hike for miles! To meet me, please contact Jeri @ (408) 262-2133 ext. 185 or Casaundra @ ext. 183.

Baghera is in Foster Home.

Moby "I Don't Get It Why Is Taking So Long..."

HSSV's Moby
Moby is in the shelter more than four months so far. I don't get it why is taking so long. He is the sweetest creature you could imagine.

Check it out video made by wonderful HSSV's Volunteers. It is all love!

"Moby is the sweetest and most loveable guy in the shelter. A lot of people meet him and then change their minds because he has the possibility of seizures of unknown origin. I have two dogs with seizure disorders and I would not trade them for the word. One is on medication - inexpensive and easy to give and the other does well without medication. Share Moby's picture and story and help him find someone who will see past his medical concerns!!" by Beth Ward

Tristan It’s Time For Me to Find Someone Who...

HSSV's Tristan "Don’t get me wrong, everyone here is super nice but an energetic dude like me gets really bored"
Hi, I’m Tristan. Do you like to run? I love to run. Let’s do a 5K. It’ll be fantastic. How do you feel about hiking? I love to hike. We could hit the hills and crank out a couple of miles, maybe make hot dogs over the fire – I love hot dogs.

Don’t get me wrong, everyone here is super nice but an energetic dude like me gets really bored.

It’s time for me to find someone who can keep up with me. Let’s try agility or flyball or rally-o or all of it! It’s summer, we should be out doing things. Lots of things. I’m a JackRussell Terrier mix so even though I’m wearing a small dog suit, there’s a whole lots of energy and attitude here.
HSSV's Tristan "Things You Didn’t Know About Jack Russell Terriers"
Things You Didn’t Know About Jack Russell Terriers

Jack Russell, who developed the breed, was a priest.

They were originally bred to hunt small vermin, terrier means go to ground.

Some of the shorter Jack Russell Terriers actually have a form of dwarfism.

The breed was created in the 1800’s but not recognized bythe AKC until 1997.

Looking for a couch potato? Keep looking! Jack Russell's are independent, athletic and require a lot amount of exercise. They excel in dog sports and make great jogging partners.

Check out video created by wonderful HSSV's Volunteers.

Chunky Monkey as a Movie Star, Therapy Dog, Urban Dictionary Definition and... A Magically Delicious Ice Cream

HSSV's Chunky Monkey
I am special guy looking for my forever home! I like to sit in laps and be petted gently as I lean in. I'm very polite when walking on a leash and am looking for a family that likes to go on daily long walks, jogs, and/or hikes. I'm a bit reserved when I meet new people and I need a little time and patience before I warm up. I'm not a big fan of being left alone, so I really hope I can find someone who can be with me often or slowly help me become more comfortable with the idea. If you're looking for a constant companion, ask to meet me today!

Urban Dictionary
1. chunky monkey
noun: the object of a chubby chaser's affection. Never refer to another person as a "chunky monkey" unless-
A. you know the person very well, so much so that said person would not be offended by being called one, or-
B. you can run very fast and will never see the person again.
2. chunky monkey
A magically delicious Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream flavor.

No caption needed ;)
3. chunky monkey
a more polite desription of someone who is rather obese

4. HSSV's Chunky Monkey super sweet, looking for furever home 3-year-old puppy, with soft, silky fur, he is offering to be your private therapy dog

Elizabeth thank you for this wonderful video, and all Bubble Moms for showing Chunky Monkey from his best sweet side :)

Chunky Monkey Puzzled "Why Am I Still at HSSV?"

HSSV's Chunky Monkey Puzzled "Why Am I Still at HSSV?"

Such a love bug!

Oh I love Monkey --- he is so affectionate and loves to cuddle and lather you with kisses. Walking/running is not his thing but he'll do it for belly rubs and massages. He loves massages and will climb on your lap for a full body massage. Puzzling he is still at HSSV.

yeah, he's a great dog

And it is completely shocking to me that he's still with us. I finally got my chance to play with him the last two weekends and he's absolutely an awesome guy. Super affectionate, really, really easy to walk, love the way he leans in his whole body for a petting, like being close isn't enough and he wants to merge. And those beautiful yellow eyes. So wise. Great little guy.
Great picture, too. It's so him.

HSSV's Chunky Monkey "Such a love bug!"

Kovu Ornithology and Botany Specialist

HSSV's Kovu "Can you do your ears up?"
Today Kovu was not the happiest dog, He was little bit tense all the time, so I took him first to play in the dog park. Where he enjoyed free running, playing fetch and water bath.
HSSV's Kovu loves water
After we took off and stroll next to creek... just to check out ducks and cranes... awsome yummy birds. Maybe Ornithology will be next Kovu's fascination.
HSSV's Kovu and birds study
After study of birds, Kovu needed more quiet time to relax, so we continue our walk passing people and cars, or just sitting on  grass, green ivy, next to agapanthus flowers... He might consider Botany as a second major his study ;)
